CHINESE FIRM SECURE KENYA POWER METER CONTRACT
Chinese firm bag contract for Kenya Power meter
Shenzhen Star Instruments Company, a Chinese firm has won the tender process for Kenya power meter. The deal is for the firm to supply single phase prepayment meters to Kenya Power.
They will also deliver the meters as the utility firm continues connecting more people to the grid. While, Kenya Power is expected to add more customers through the return of its Last Mile Connectivity Project (LMCP). This will be links homes to the national grid under a subsidised programme.
The LMCP was launched in 2015 by Kenya Power to scale up connectivity in rural and peri-urban areas. This was aim to provide a subsidy for grid extension that will enable customers get electricity supply at an affordable cost.
The latest development has seen an increase in the national grid. But their performance has declined in recent years despite rising customer numbers.
